IMPORTANT: The scavenger hunt closes at 11:59PM on Saturday, October 31st!
Get ready once again to test your wits, sharpen your research skills, and have a little fun along the way.
This year, we’re going back to the traditional way to release the scavenger hunt – one phase each full week of October. That means you will have to be patient and wait until the following week for the next phase of the hunt (of course, you could wait until week four and complete all four weeks at the same time). Each phase will open up at 8:00AM each Monday of October. There are four phases, one for each week, and with each one, the difficulty increases. But don’t worry: clear directions and helpful hints will be provided to guide you.
Here’s how it will work:
- Each week has four questions.
- Once you’ve searched and found the answers and completed the form, you’ll also submit your name and email so you can be entered into that week’s prize drawing.
- You’ll then receive an email containing your responses, a link to the next week’s page and instructions for forming the password to unlock the page.
A few reminders:
- All answers should be submitted and used in the password in lowercase letters, regardless of whether it is a proper noun or other word which is normally capitalized.
- Don’t overthink it! Trust your instincts, read carefully, leverage search engines (and maybe a little AI if you want) and enjoy the challenge.
- This is designed to be a fun way to learn, explore, and engage with real cybersecurity concepts and history.
Why should you do this crazy hunt?
You will learn about topics related to cybersecurity, plus the prizes are awesome! The grand prize is a Bluetooth speaker.

If you like and want the speaker, but don’t win one, here is the Amazon link for it (neither I nor OIT make any money if you buy one).
The four weekly prizes consist of a set of four magnetic, textured fidget spheres with a carrying case – see the images below. Here is the link to the corresponding Amazon page in case you aren’t the lucky winner any of the four weeks, but still want the set (again, neither I nor OIT make any money from you deciding to buy a set).

Good luck—and welcome to the hunt!
